Joel Pat Benson

Joel Pat Benson, age 85 of Jackson, passed away on June 22, 2025, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

Pat was born on June 12,1940 in Jackson, TN, the son of the late George Henry Benson and Opal Pearl (Gilliam) Benson. He graduated from South Side High School and then married Carole Cummings with whom he had 3 children, Dana, Joel and Michael. He later was remarried to Hersha Dawn Smith with whom he had 2 children, Kevin and Patricia. He was employed with Ormet Aluminum until he retired.

In addition to his parents, Pat was preceded in death by five brothers, Gordon Benson, Narsh Benson, Charles Benson, Travis Benson and Larry Benson.

He is survived by his two daughters, Dana Townsend and Patricia Watlington (David); three sons, Joel Benson (Kris), Michael Benson (Jackie) and Kevin Benson; ten grandchildren, Jamie Townsend, Madison Townsend, Alex Townsend-Jaimes (Gabriel), Brianna Johns (Philip), John Benson, Angelina Benson, Tristan Lowery (Payton), Gabrielle Lowery, Nolan Lowery, and Bella Watlington.

A graveside service to celebrate the life of Pat Benson will be held at 10 am on Friday, July 11, 2025, at Highland Memorial Gardens with Bro. Allen Brown officiating. Family and friends are welcome and invited to attend.
