Donna Jean Payton

Surrounded by the love of her family in the comfort of her home, Donna Jean Payton, 66, peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 26, 2026. She was joyfully reunited with the love of her life, her beloved husband, Olbert L. "Bert" Payton.

Donna was born on January 24, 1960, in Mackinaw, Illinois, to the late Howard and Nancy Parker, formerly of Lewistown, Illinois. On July 15, 1977, she married her "honey," Bert. Together they made Tennessee their home in 1983, where they built a life centered on family, hard work, laughter and friendship.

Donna is lovingly survived by her sisters, Cindy (Billy) Williams of Brazoria, Texas, Karen (Don) Caldwell of Lewistown, Illinois, and Susan Briers of Paris, Tennessee, whose unwavering love, selfless devotion, and constant presence became a source of strength after the passing of Bert. Susan lovingly made it her mission to ensure her sister continued to live life to the fullest, surrounding her with compassion, laughter, and the enduring love of family. Their bond was one of deep friendship and unconditional love, a gift Donna treasured every day. She also leaves her brother, Tom (Kathy) Parker of Paris, Tennessee; and a multitude of cousins, especially her caring, compassionate and devoted cousin, Tammy (Leo) Rushing of Paris, Tennessee.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Bert; and her brothers, Rodney (Barb) Parker of Lewistown, Illinois, and Dusty Parker of Peoria, Illinois.

Though she didnt have any children of her own, she shared an extraordinary bond with her nephew, Jessie Burden of Paris, Tennessee, and her niece, Vallena (Jason) Wyatt of Buchanan, Tennessee, loving them as if they were her own children. Donna was also a proud step-grandmother to Benji Payton and a cherished step-great-grandmother to Kaya Payton, and a beloved grandmother figure to Alyvia Taylor and Karson (Emma Boyd) Wyatt and great-grandmother figure to Alex Boyd, who held a special place in her heart.

Donna was a dedicated and hardworking woman. After moving to Tennessee, she worked at Plumley Rubber Company in Paris and later at Oshkosh in Camden. While working full-time, she attended night classes at the Tennessee Vocational School, where she earned her certification as a CNC machinist. She continued her career at Midland Brake, later Haldex, in Paris before retiring from McKenzie Valve and Machining in McKenzie, Tennessee.

Donna loved the Lord and when able attended Central Point Baptist Church in Paris, Tennessee.

Donna truly enjoyed life. In her younger years, weekends were often spent at the creek, singing karaoke, gathered around bonfires with family and friends, or selling her handmade crafts at local flea markets. Later in life, she lovingly devoted herself to caring for Bert through his years-long battle with cancer and other health challenges, demonstrating a love that never wavered.

She found joy in life's simple blessings. Donna loved putting together puzzles—"lots and lots" of them—playing cards with family and friends, crocheting, baking cookies, cakes, and pies, and cooking for anyone who needed a good meal. She also adored her pets, who were family and always showered them with love and affection.

Donna will be remembered for her warm heart, her unforgettable hugs, and her willingness to listen. She never hesitated to offer her opinion, usually ending with her trademark phrase, "Never mind me, that's none of my business!" She loved getting down on the floor to play with the little ones and made Christmas magical every year with beautifully decorated real Christmas trees and thoughtful gifts for everyone she loved.

Donna's life was a beautiful example of unconditional love, selfless service, steadfast faith, and genuine kindness. The memories she created and the lives she touched will continue to be a lasting blessing to all who knew her.

In accordance with her wishes, Donna will be cremated, and no visitation or formal service will be held. She entered into eternal rest surrounded by the love of her closest family and friends. Though her presence will be deeply missed, her family finds peace in knowing she is whole again, reunited with Bert, and forever in the loving presence of her Savior.
