In Loving Memory of Betty Ruth Mills (Stewart)
Betty Ruth Mills (Stewart), age 88, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of April 22nd, surrounded by her family. Born in Hardeman County on November 7th, 1936 to the late John Dewey Stewart and Nina Dee Hammers Stewart. She brought joy and light to everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Betty was full of life — her laughter was contagious, her smile was constant, and her love was felt by all. She made everyone feel welcome, seen, and loved.
She was a talented Cosmetologist who ran her own beauty salon for years. But it wasn’t just a place to get your hair done — it was where people came to laugh, catch up, and feel at home. Her grandchildren were always running around the shop, playing and getting into things while she worked her magic behind the chair. Betty loved her family more than anything, and it showed in everything she did.
As time went on, Betty or “Nanny” stayed right in the middle of her great-grandchildren’s’ lives. They were always running down to her house to play — it was the place to be. She’d let them pile into her old red truck and drive it up and down the driveway. Whether she was watching them or just sitting on the porch with that sweet smile of hers, Nanny was their constant. She was always there — loving, patient, and ready to make any day a little more fun.
She is survived by her three daughters Sandra Cornelison (Steve),Tina Cantrell (Robert) and Linda Craig (Pat). Her 5 grandchildren are Steve Cornelison (Hope), Scott Cornelison (April), Sheffie Cornelison (Tina), Brooke Stout (Shane), Rob Cantrell. Her 6 great grandchildren Abby McPherson (Collin), Trae Cornelison (Ashton), Ella Cornelison, Brian Cornelison, Jaidyn Cornelison and Reid Cantrell. Her two great-great grandchildren Ava Grace McPherson and Hallie Jean Cornelison.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Earl William Mills; brothers and sisters, Edward, Mary Lou, Clara, Frances, Katherine, Peggy, J. D., Franklin, Carmen and Jimmie Lee.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 24th at Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home from 10 – 12 pm.
A graveside service for family will be held at 1 pm at New Union Baptist Church Cemetery.
Her smile and love will never be forgotten.
The Pallbearers will be Steve Cornelison, Jr., Rob Cantrell, Brian Cornelison, Trae Cornelison, Scott Cornelison, Shane Stout, Chris Cornelison and Sheffie Cornelison.
