Billie Jean Staples

Billie Jean Staples passed away on August 30th, 2020 at the age of 90. She was born August 11, 1930 to the late Raymond Burress and Sallie Steadman Burress. She attended schools in Chester County and graduated from Chester County High School in 1948. She married the love of her life, Billy Pope Staples on September 23, 1950. She was an active member of Beech Bluff United Methodist Church until her health began to decline, where she was the teacher of the Volunteer Sunday School Class for 33 years and participated in numerous Bible Studies over the years. She also took great joy in her years as a member of the United Methodist Women. Billie Jean is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sisters Maxine (Edwin) Dyer, Hazel (J.W. Johnson), brothers Burl (Helen) Burress, Lafayette (Virginia) Burress and Charles Burress, her grandson Clint Howell and son-in-law Tom Scott. Billie Jeans daily prayers included to be able to care for her family and others. She was blest with a long life to have those prayers answered. Mrs. Staples is survived by her children, Dr. Randy (Rilla) Staples, DDS, Pam (Rick) Howell, Susan Staples, and Sarah Scott, Grandchildren, Blake Staples, Lauren Staples Hatley (Marc) , Jon Howell (Molly), Josh Vinson (Jessie) , Jennifer Vinson Newsom, Gina Vinson Thompson (Kenny), Will Scott (Shauna), Jordan Scott and great-grandchildren, Gavin Hatley, Drew and Clint Howell, Eryn, Brooke, and Ashlyn Adkins, Eli Newsom and Noah Newsom. Her children appreciate the loving care she received from the staff at Morningside of Jackson and the staff at Hospice of West Tennessee. In honor of their mothers life of caring and showing love and respect for others, there will be a graveside service only due to the pandemic. The family request those that attend to wear a mask. Visitation with the family will begin at 12:30 p.m. and the service will be held at 1:00 p.m on Saturday, Sept. 5th at Beech Bluff Cemetery in Beech Bluff Tn. Service will be led by Rev. Diane M. Harrison, Pastor of Grace Place United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Beech Bluff United Methodist Church (c/o Carolyn Stewart/2783 Beech Bluff Rd/ Jackson, TN 38301) Beech Bluff Cemetery Association (c/o Bob May/4418 Beech Bluff Rd/ Beech Bluff, TN 38313 or charity of your choice.
