Betty L Hearn

Betty Lois Smith Hearn, aged 95 passed away on September 30, 2023 in Summerville, SC.

Betty was born on September 2, 1928 in Van Alstyne, Texas to Grady and Hattie Smith. She was the fourth born of 11 children. Betty grew up working on the family's cotton farm and her childhood was full of memorable shenanigans with her siblings. Betty attended Van Alstyne schools where she played basketball in high school. She married her late husband, Bill Hearn, at the end of WWII and moved to Jackson, Tennessee where they made their home and raised their son, Max. Betty worked various jobs over the years, but her greatest work was done at home. Sewing and quilting were passions of Betty's and she kept her granddaughters in new outfits throughout their childhoods. Canning, baking, and cooking were also activities that Betty spent many hours enjoying. Her family thinks she made the world's best salsa! She loved a beautiful afternoon visiting with her family, friends, and neighbors in her backyard swing. Any time was a good time for a glass of sweet tea, a shared story, and lots of laughs. Above all she loved and was so very loved by her family.

For the last 10 years of Betty's life she lived in Summerville, SC, doted on by her son and family. Betty became affectionately known as Grammy by her great-grandchildren. Those years were filled with joyous family times that allowed her to be present at many sporting events, performances, and countless family celebrations. These precious times with Grammy will forever be cherished.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Hearn; her parents; and eight siblings. She is survived by her son, Max (Susan); grandchildren, Katie (Ashley) Seabrook, Emily (Jack) Marchant; great grandchildren, Madison, Claire, Elly, Phin Seabrook, and Gabe (Brittney), and Jonas Marchant; her brother Stanley (Georgia) Smith and sister, Rita Sue Thompson; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Graveside service will be held Saturday, April 13, 2024, 2 PM at Hollywood Cemetery with Bro. Allen Brown officiating.
